Music Festival.  April 3rd--4th

The time of year has come again that we prepare for district music festival.  Due to the fact that we do not have a highschool band, we are going to try to send Jr. High band in its place.  Our high school choir will be representing White Sulphur Springs with two songs.  The first is a traditional choir song entitled "The Sound of the Sea"  The second is a Spanish Lullaby,   "A la na nita na na".

Morgan Barfuss and Bubba Martin will be performing a vocal duet.  "Poor Wayfaring Stranger".

The music department would like thank everyone for their support of our production of Little Shop of Horrors.  the students have worked very hard and we could not do it without the support of the community.

Thank you!!!

Music Exploration.

Grade/ Subject:   Music Explortaion

Week.... 10-15 through 12-21

Unit- Music Theory basics

Curriculum Benchmarks :      3.2.1   3.2.2    3.2.5  3.1.3

Supplemental Material :  Fanalli Worksheets (basic theory)

Students will learn benchmarks-- through independent study students will work at their own pace as these concepts are easier for some than others.  The idea each day is for the students to explore their own direction in the musical world.  Students are required to play an instrument of their choosing and learn to apply basics theory to the instrument.  Some students will also be developing voiced techniques.  The entire first semester of this class will be dedicated to the process of understanding basic music theory and as there is a great deal of information to cover, students will move at different rates through this information.  Students are required to play either as an individual or with a group each day practicing and applying the theory and direction of their specific study.  Throughout the year this group or individuals from this group will be asked to perform or "entertain" for several events or locations. Upcoming events this group is preparing for include the dinner theater performance on November 12th and the play "Little Shop of Horrors" on TBA.

Assessment----Students are assessed daily on their participation within the group as well as tested through performance of their developing skills and  understanding through daily performance.  A grading rubric is used for the assessment of weekly grade.

Dinner theater

The eighth grade students have invited many of the music students to perform at their upcoming dinner theater murder mystery.  Many of the high school music classes will have students performing at this event on the evening of Tuesday the 12th of November!!!  Make sure to buy a ticket and join us in the Elementary Gym.

Little Shop of Horrors

The high school music program is proud to be preparing for an upcoming play.  The play will be the musical "Little Shop Of Horrors".  The entirety of our high school music students will be involved in one way or another with the play including several students who couldn't be in a music class due to scheduling issues.  The students are working very hard on this project.  We are looking for donations of fake flowers or other decorations that may be used for props, so If you or anyone you know may be able to help with this we would be grateful.  There is not yet a date set for the production.......Keep an eye out for dates sometime after Christmas!!
